CVFP - UNICEF - Krishnagiri District Administration
The UNICEF and Krishnagiri District administration is implementing child friendly village planning project in eight Blocks in association with two prominent NGOs of IVDP and Myrada and the non-profit organization Integrated Village Development Project (IVDP) has been carrying out this program at various phases in the Blocks of Krishnagiri, Bargur, Kaveripattinam, Veppanapalli and Six panchayats of Thally Block since 2005. This CFVP has 18 indicators that aim to promote the well being of women and children by 2007.

The CFVP team comprising facilitators, supervisors and Block coordinators has been continuously disseminating information on the core issues in order to sustain the progress made and to achieve the expected targets in the designated pointers. In every village, village level Management committee (VLMC) and village volunteer Force(VVF) has been formed and constantly they meet together and chalk out plans to develop their own villages in association with the service providers.

The facilitators has created strong base in each hamlet and on that volunteers’ training are regularly conducted to sensitize them on the burning issues. To realize the plans, panchayat level convergence committee (PLCC) has been formed and it meets first Friday on each month, in which the panchayat presidents, ward member/councilor, VHN, Headmaster, Anganwadi staff, Volunteers etc., do participate and sort out issues.

The facilitators had to face lot of difficulties in reaching the goals. They suffered, met humiliation, driven out of the community, strived a get a place in the hearts of people etc., But the outcome was tremendous and overwhelming.

The issues identified in the villages were shared with the District Administration and line Departments and possible solutions were discussed in length and breadth in the Task Force meeting. From our experience we understand that the health Department functionaries, till at the gross-root level discharge their duties to their best. In many of the villages 100% achieved with regard to registration of pregnancies, consumption of IFA by pregnant mothers and adolescent girls, exclusive breast feeding, administration of Vitamin ‘A’ drops and Hospital deliveries. Most of the villages did not report infant death, child death and maternal death in the last one year.

To address the issues of children Bala Sabha meeting was held in all 38 Panchayats of Kaveripattinam Block. This was also the outcome of the CFVP program.

Towards CFVP the IVDP has contributed various things in many ways. Such as sensitization to 4158 Animators on Mother and child welfare, 5000 Nail cutters to Animators, 160 calculators to facilitators, Rs. 1 lakh spent on Birth certificate, 75 weighing scals, 10 cell phones, 13 two wheeler etc.,

This exploratory CFVP study conducted in Kaveripattinam(272 villages), in June and July 2007 and chapters of interpretation and analysis, main findings, limitations and conclusions give adequate information on CFVP operations carried out in these areas.
